Preventing Gel Nails from Peeling and Lifting

Monday, February 11th, 2008

By Rebecca Hombroek There are a variety of reason why nails lift, and many of them are the resultof improper application methods. Make sure that you follow all of the applicationsteps correctly, and if you are still having lifting problems it may just bethat you need a little extra help with an additional product like the IBD Dehydrate.First read all of the handy hints below. Hopefully you will recognise where youmight be going wrong. Don’t use too much Bonder. The nail should not look shiny after applyingthe bonder. If it does, gently dab the nail with a clean nail wipe so thatyou have a matt grainy appearance. Using too much Bonder can be the main reasonfor lifting. For extreme lifting you can cure the Bonder for 3 minutes. While preparing your nails make sure thay you file the entire nail in onedirection only. The entire surface should have the shine removed. Take specialcare to file all nail edges. Make sure that all nail and gel filings are removed with Cleanser Plus anda Nail Wipe before applying Bonder. The nail must be thoroughly clean, dryand particle free. When you first start preparing your nails you use Nail Prep Spray, whichnot only sanitises your nails but also dehydrates them a little. This is animportant step. Some people however might need a little more help to dehydratetheir nails. This might be because your have particularly oily nail beds, haveyour hands regularly in water (from swimming, washing dishes etc), or it couldjust be a temporary change like pregnancy that is effecting how well your nailsstay on. You have a couple of options if this is the case. You can use a strongernail primer, like those that are used for acrylic nails, or you can use IBDDehydrate. IBD Dehydrate is a quick and effective product which is simply brushedon 3 to 4 seconds before you apply your Bonder. It doesn’t need to be cured. Avoid washing your hands during the whole application process. You need tokeep your nails completely dry. Ensure that after applying the gel you run around the nail edge with a CuticlePusher, or any other object with a pointed end like a tooth pick, to ensurethat the gel hasn’t run onto the skin. Confine your application to the nailplate only. Gel cured on your cuticles or surrounding skin will cause lifting. Don’t apply the gel too thinly at the edge of the nail. Make sure you use a top coat and cap the end and edges of the nail. Thiswill help prevent moisture seeping between the natural nail and gel layer. If you are applying gel polish you must use a topcoat. (see handy hint on’Coloured Gel Polish is peeling’) Use gloves when washing up and house cleaning. 5 Ways To Help A Depressed Loved One

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

By Chris Green When a person is suffering the torment of a stressful, depressive or anxious episode, it can be so hard for loved ones and friends to connect with them. For the sufferer, the torment can be exacerbated because no one understands what theyre going through. Heres 5 ways you can develop understanding so you can reach a loved one. 1. A common reaction to a sufferer is: Oh, come on, youll be OK, its all in the mind. Although stress, depression and anxiety have their roots in thought, there are many other symptoms involved. Severe headache, back pain, muscle pain, exhaustion, palpitations, hypertension, shaking, loss of appetite, loss of sex drive and loss of interest in previously enjoyable activities to name several. There are many other symptoms and its also important to understand that no sufferer experiences the same symptoms. E.g. One may develop severe back pain another may develop headaches. As you can see, it is much more complicated than all in the mind. 2. Another reaction is to say What have you got to be so worried about? Many people throughout the world have it much worse than you do and theyre happy. Now fair enough, when you look at the plight millions of people have to endure around the world, living in squalor and poverty, then yes, they do have a terrible time. So do people who suffer severe illness and disability. But this just wont have any bearing on how a sufferer feels at all. In my own case, when people said this to me it meant nothing because I couldnt change their circumstances and I was struggling to solve my own problems. I couldnt care about anyone else. This is a symptom of depression. A sufferer will turn inwards and disconnect from society. They need help to solve their problems. Pointing out that others have it worse will not help in any way. 3. Non sufferers find it very hard to accept depression, anxiety and stress as real problems. Many will say Oh, youve just got the blues. Dont worry, theyll soon go away. Of course, there will be times in all of our lives when things dont run smoothly, when things go awry, when the weather is awful, when friends let you down, when you just feel a bit sad. We call these the blues and we know that the blues will eventually lift. There is a big difference between the blues and stressful, depressive or anxious episodes. Sufferers firmly believe their torment will never end and they cannot see a positive outcome to any problem. Add these feelings to the physical symptoms and you can see that the blues is vastly different. 4. Self-deprecation is typical of these problems. Sufferers will put themselves down at every opportunity. Theyll do it when theyre alone and theyll do it when theyre in the company of others. E.g. No, you go ahead. I wont bother because Ill just get it wrong like everything else I do. When you hear this, avoid the urge to challenge it or reprimand. Instead, gently and subtly remind them of a time when something went well. Just say Hey, do you remember that time when you Challenging or reprimanding will only arouse resentment and theyll just think youre against them. This is a very subtle way of reminding the sufferer of a more positive event. 5. Frustration is also common amongst people who cannot understand what their loved one is going through. And it can soon give way to anger and resentment as patience wears thin. Criticism begins. Youve always been negative. The glass is always half empty with you. All youve ever done is look on the downside. You want to stop feeling sorry for yourself and pull yourself together. Whilst I can understand the frustration, this kind of approach will only have 2 outcomes: Your loved one will resent you so much they will start avoiding you and their torment will deepen. As frustrating as it is, please resist this. Give them space. Reassure them youre there for them no matter what. If your frustration is getting the better of you, take a time out to gather your thoughts by going for a walk. Yes its hard but the alternative is to make things harder. I know its so difficult to reach loved ones and I know its so hard to understand whats happening. This article will help you and your loved one to deal more effectively with the torment. Until next time. Chris Green is the author of Conquering Stress, a special program which will show you how to conquer stress, depression and anxiety without taking powerful drugs. Am I Lonely Or Do I Really Want To Be Married

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

By Anthony Howard And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. Gen. 2:18 God, Himself, said that its not good for man to be alone. Now, let me place myself into the text and the period in which it is written. God had created every beast, fowl, and creeping thing and brought them to Adam to name. God saw that there was not one that could be an help meet for Adam. He placed Adam into a deep sleep and took one of his ribs and made a woman. God brought her to Adam and Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. The text goes on to record that they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. Let me first address that the revelation I received, as it may be a tremendous help to men around the world instead of searching so intently for a woman, be busy about the job God has for you to do. Adam didnt even recognize how lonely he was or how bad it was to be alone because he was too busy naming animals, fowls of the air, and creeping things. God brought woman to Adam when He felt it was time to do so. Adam recognized her for who she was immediately, and from that moment they were man and wife. Now before the wifey thing, all that was around Adam were beasts, fowl, and creeping things. So, I have to believe women who are raising children when they say, Im in need of adult conversation. It was by this same token God felt that it was not good for Man to be alone. Adam was not lonely; he had the company of all the animals, nature, and even God himself who visited him in the garden at times. But, he was alone. Lonely is defined as remote from other habitations or dwelling places. Alone is defined as apart from or to the exclusion of other persons or things; solitary; single. At first glance I look at lonely and think that weve been using the word incorrectly but, then I think again and realize that when you are in love with someone you do feel at home with them, youre extremely comfortable with them, and all masks are removed; and to be void of that is to be remote from a place called home. Lonely can also be defined as a homeless heart. {HmmmI like that.} Now, there is a difference between lonely (a homeless heart) and being alone (being single). Moreover, God said it was not good for man to be single. He did not say that it was not good for man to have a homeless heart; the reason being because Adams heart had a home with God. So another revelation for me is that if I find myself feeling lonely, then I need to check my connection with God, not try to fill it with a womans embrace, or the smell of her perfume, or in the sound of her giggle. As we explore this issue of man being alone, we must take into account that Adam was the first man in the world, and the world needed to be populated. Now that it has been populated, being alone just isnt what it used to be. There are mens groups and womens groups, there are people who have the same hobbies as you do, and there are family, friends, and co-workers. So being alone now is not as it was for Adam; youre never alone unless you chose to be. What makes it so difficult to maintain singleness is the way we are bombarded by images from a consumer-based society that deems you incomplete unless youre with a mate. Love stories, commercials with lovers, and holidays for couples all add to the pressure to find a significant other. Im not saying that it is a bad thing to be involved with a partner, but we have to consider the alarming rate of divorce in this country. It could be attributed to consequence that these people made too rash of a decision to get togetherand for what? To have children and then separate and cause their offspring to have more of a warped view of what marriage is? Furthermore, speaking of marrying to have children, there are millions of abandoned children that could use a parent to love them as their own. Whos loving them? I have developed a more realistic view of marriage because I have repeatedly watched family and friends divorcing and ending vows made to each other and to God. We have to go back to the old days. Were dating and rehearsing marriage and then when the marriage is actually here, were expecting something greater, when its only what it was before the ceremony. The big thrill, the learning of each other, the need to cling to each other would be there if you didnt rehearse all of that by dating. Dating should be merely friends male and female going out doing things together in single-hood; taking the time out to learn about the opposite sex, in a non-threatening atmosphere, where dialogue and understanding can take place to make each more informed as to what to expect and how to be more appealing to their future mate. So how do you know if you should marry this person or not if you dont date them and get to know them? Place your heart in God so that its not homeless, be busy in Gods assignment for your life, and let Him present you to each other when the time is right. Do I really want to be married or am I lonely? I will no longer be lonely because my heart will no longer be homeless. Additionally, I only want to be married if that is what God has planned for my life. Meanwhile let me be busy about my Fathers business. Anthony Howard is a born writer. Kids Party Planning - Birthdays, Holidays, and Just for Fun!

Friday, February 8th, 2008

By Gail Leino There are few things as special to childhood as personal hallmarks and kids parties that are thrown to mark unique occasions. Most notable among these are birthdays when children have a day just to celebrate the passing of another year. But certainly a kid can have party plans for any other occasion or just because it seems like a good idea. Valentine’s Day and Halloween are favorite times for Kids Parties but so are non-holiday occasions. A pool party, sleep over or cook out can give children valuable opportunities to develop social skills in a relaxed social environment as well as to just have fun with friends and to invite kids with whom they would like to become better acquainted. One thing to remember about a kid’s party is to include the child in some small way in all facets of the planning, entertaining and clean up unless the party is to be a surprise when he or she can only be involved in the last two. Otherwise, remember that throwing a kids party can be a valuable chance for the child to express his creativity and learn to interact with others responsibly. For instance, rather than just heading to the store to buy race car decorations, ask the child to take a moment and look at a catalogue or web site and choose the decorations from pre-established parameters. The guidelines should include budget and use colors and themes that work for the season and other decorating concerns. The supervising adult must maintain veto power in the planning stages, however. Children don’t always consider all the potential problems when making choices on their own. A piata might be fun within the confines of careful planning but could be a disaster if bad weather forced a party back indoors. Always let common sense prevail. Making The Grade

Friday, February 8th, 2008

By Annagail Lynes Here–” I said, handing my mother my progress report as I walked into her room. I braced myself for the inevitably screaming I was sure to hear. “My teacher says you have to sign this.” My mother looked at the card, then at me. “How could you be getting a ‘D’ in Earth Science?” Some students have a natural ability for academics. They receive excellent marks, yet rarely crack open their textbooks. Others have to study night and day to get the same marks. Its not that some students are smart, and others are dumb. It is a matter of tapping into what study methods work for each student. Here are seven ways you can study more effectively and improve your grades: Track Assignments The first step is to keep track of assignments. Some loose-leaf binders come with school-year or all-year calendars. If you dont find one you like, consider buying a teachers’ planning calendar from an office supply store. It can be inserted into the front of your binders and used to record assignments. Your teachers may provide you with assignment sheets. These sheets can be slipped in front of the calendar. The day the assignments and tests are announced, work out a study schedule. Commit To A Regular Time And Place For Homework You should study every day to continue to make progress. Homework time doesn’t have to be a hassle if you are flexible with your schedule. Some students like to start their homework right after school. With their homework finished, they are free to go out or watch television. Other students prefer to relax first, then do their homework with a fresh perspective. Once you have committed to a homework time, stick to it. Where you study is as important as setting a regular study time. You may enjoy studying at your bedroom desk or lying on the floor in the living room. No matter where you study, the environment should be noise-free and well-lighted. You should be able to spread out your books and papers. Also make sure you have all the supplies you need within your reach. Be Conscientious Every night make sure your homework is done, is correct and is orderly. Neat homework and projects earn higher grades. In the business world, if you make a sloppy presentation, you will lose the client’s account. Also turn your homework in on time. After the test and assignments are handed back, sit down with them and see where you made mistakes. Why were the errors made and how could you prevent similar errors in the future? Write notes on the assignments and tests. Make a file for the test and notes, for cumulative tests later. Use Memorization Techniques In order to remember lists, try inventing a combination of letters (an acronym). Each letter will give you a clue to an idea you need to remember. For example, BRASS is an acronym for how to shoot a rifle–Breath, Relax, Aim, Sight, Squeeze. You could also make up a sentence where the first letter of each word is a hint to what you need to recall. For instance, Dumb Martians Just Sit Nearby Eating Tender Noodles is the phrase to remember the order of the Eight Is Enough children–David, Mary, Joanie, Susan, Nancy, Elizabeth, Tommy, Nicholas. For remembering names, devise a relationship between the name and the physical characteristics of the person. For example, Shirley Temple might be remembered as having curly–which rhymes with Shirley–hair around her temples. When you have an ordered or an unordered list you need to memorize, you can create a story linking the ideas together. The more crazier, the better. If your vocabulary words are success, assistant, cemetery, scrutinize, you might create a story of a successful assistant scrutinizing tombstones in a cemetery, searching for her boss grave. Studying For Tests Write down a study checklist of what will be covered on the test. Make a list of notes, formulas, ideas and text assignments that you are responsible for. Create flashcards–put topics or questions on the front and answers on the back. Have a friend, parent or sibling quiz you. Keep running through the flashcards while you brush your teeth, are on the bus, when you are in the restroom and when you are doing chores. Produce a mock test. One with only the questions and another with only the answers. Hide the answers in a drawer or give them to a parent. Take the test and when completed, compare your responses with the ones on the answer sheet. Keep repeating this process until you know the material backward and forward. If you want to make studying for a test fun, team up with a friend and play the game show Twenty-One. A parent or sibling should host , reading off the questions. You and your friend compete against each other until one of you reaches twenty-one points. Avoid Getting Involved In Too Many Activities If you want to participate in an extracurricular activity, you can reschedule your study time. However, if baseball, ballet or any other activities make you stay up late trying to finish your homework, then you are involved in too many activities. Play Educational Games After the homework is finished, pull out a board game. Monopoly encourages mental calculation when counting money and determining moves, and Clue requires logical deductive skills. Try to figure out the measurements when doubling a recipe in the kitchen. Playing word games with your family or friends can improve spelling skills. Scrabble, anagrams, Wheel of Fortune and word jumbles can teach you to spell new words. II Timothy 2:15 says to study to show yourself approved unto God. If you care enough about your grades to take the time to develop conscientious study habits, you receive better marks, learn self-discipline and will have more options when it comes to selecting colleges. No matter what you choose to do in life, you should have a good education to fall back on. Not everything in life comes easy. The key is to make up your mind to work hard for the things you want. And not to let anyone or anything get in your way. About The Author Annagail Lynes is editor of VisionHope Magazine. Epoxy Adhesive-More than Glue

Friday, February 1st, 2008

By Margarette Tustle How Is Epoxy Adhesive Different From Other Types Of Glue? In order to make epoxy work, you must combing resin and a hardening agent to make the bond as strong as necessary. Until recently most adhesives were not very good at bonding two different materials such as metal and wood or in bonding non-porous materials like glass. But, with the synthetic matter contained in epoxies, you can do both of these types of jobs with ease. Most of the time, when you are making an epoxy adhesive, you do not mix the two parts together until you are ready to use them. Many are also thermo-activated, which means they also need heat in order to form the bonds. How Long Have Epoxies Been Around? In 1936, both S. O. Greenlee in the United States and Dr. Pierre Castan of Switzerland demonstrated the first epoxy adhesive. Since then, there have been many advancements in the field of adhesives and you can find many types both for home use and industrial use. Some that you might be familiar with are Krazy Glue, Super Glue, and Gorilla Glue. Uses For Epoxy Adhesive Uses for this type of adhesive include: fixing things like broken glasses, or bonding fiber optic cables. Epoxies are not bulky, are lightweight conform easily to the surface of the materials they are bonding. Therefore, they are perfect for many uses in the home and also in the workplace, because they are made to last. What Cautions And Dangers Should You Be Aware Of When You Use An Epoxy Adhesive? Exercise great caution that you are using the right kind of adhesive for the job. The wrong kind of adhesive can actually cause permanent damage to whatever you are trying to repair. Also, you should make sure that you have the area where you are using the epoxy adhesive clean and free from debris so that it does not get into adhesive. Take care to not get any adhesive on your skin because it may bond instantly and it is difficult to remove without great effort. With an epoxy adhesive like Crazy Glue it bonds instantly when it hits the air. If you do get it on your skin, you can try fingernail polish to remove it. When you are using a two part epoxy adhesive you should mix it on a surface that you will not be using again if possible. The packaging for the epoxy adhesive often can serve this purpose. Mix the two parts quickly and apply them as soon as possible. Follow all of the instructions very carefully to ensure the best results. If you are using some types of epoxies they can produce enough heat to cause whatever you are trying to bond to crack or bend. This is why it is essential that you are very careful when you are choosing which epoxy adhesive to use. Even the simplest epoxy such as those you would use at home can cause damage and may ruin the surface for future bonding attempts. Where Can You Buy It? You can find several types of epoxy at a hardware store, a home improvement store, or even some types of craft and hobby store. But, if you are unsure what type of epoxy you need, you can find a wealth of information online about what epoxies work best with different materials. The packaging should also have information as well that will not only help you to choose the right adhesive, but also how to apply it. If you still have questions, contact the customer service representatives at the company where the epoxy is manufactured to find out any additional information you may need.
